Systems	Caretakers of the Earth	Simple Machines & Sound	Matter Matters
5th Grade Benchmarks	Students examine the systems in their lives. They use body structures for a classification system, set up an ecosystem to learn how organisms depend on each other, and investigate human body systems. They also use microscopes to examine cells.	Emphasis is placed on the rock cycle, composition and characteristics of the atmosphere, and ways humans alter the environment	Students apply principles of force and energy as they experiment with simple machines constructed from LEGOs™. Students investigate how sound travels through different media and how it is reflected.	This Unit/Kit focuses on the states and properties of matter, chemical and physical changes and reactions, and the relationship between atoms, molecules, and compounds.

Flashcards

What's that you say? Use your iPod to study? How is that possible?

With a little help from some friends, (Mr. Coley and Mr. Vincent), Mrs. Lykowski

has created specially designed PowerPoint presentations that can serve as flashcards.

Using iPod's "Photos" feature, you can download the images and study on the go!

These can also be viewed on a Zune as well. Don't worry if you don't own an iPod or a Zune.

You can download the PowerPoint presentations and view them on your computer!

To transfer photos, connect iPod to the computer. In iTunes, click the iPod's name under Devices. Click the Photos tab. Check the box next to Sync Photos. Click the Apply button. Each time you connect the iPod to the computer, the photos will be updated.

To access the photos, select Photos from iPod's Main menu. Then choose a subfolder or album to display a thumbnail list. Select a thumbnail to see a full-screen image.

To view the flashcards on the computer:

• download the presentation, right-click (control-click for Mac users) on the link and then select "Save Target As..." (or "Download Linked File" for Mac users).

• Open the presentation, start the slide show, and click each time you wish to advance to the next slide (flash card).

Don't have Microsoft PowerPoint installed on your computer?  No problem.  Download PowerPoint Viewer.  This free program allows you to view full-featured PowerPoint presentations.
